Grief Weekend

You are not alone in your pain
JULY 14th THRU 16th, 2017 (POSTPONED FOR 2017...RETURNING SUMMER 2018)
The purpose of the weekend is to help teenagers develop skills and strategies to deal with the loss of a significant person in their life. Teens will have a great time boating, swimming, hiking, playing games, and overcoming obstacles; all while healing and learning to understand their emotions and cherish the memory of a loved one.

We can help each other through the healing process.

There is no charge for the weekend. If you know someone who would benefit from attending this weekend, click here to access our application along with our pamphlet, which contains additional information.

Requirements for the teenagers:
  • in high school
  • need parent/guardian permission
  • expereinced the loss of a family member, friend, or significant person in their life
The weekend was created in the summer of 2004 in memory of David Karl Matzke.

David died very suddenly at the age of 32 on April 9, 2003. The feelings of anger, grief, and not knowing "why" were extremely overwhelming for his family.

David's family and friends wanted to share their experiences and what they have learned that has helped them cope with the loss.
The program is funded by The Montei Foundation, Columbus, Ohio. We are grateful for their continued support of our efforts.

Staff has been trained by Hospice and Pallative Care Association of Central NY. The staff is comprised of teachers, social workers, and people who have experienced the healing process themselves.
