Camp Lookout News

We are excited to say that the summer of 2010 at Camp Lookout was another fantastic year!  Our children engaged in athletics, arts and crafts, nature, swimming, and canoeing. In Athlectics campers enjoyed classic games like baseball, basketball, and kickball and new games such as GAGA and ping pong on our newly donated ping pong table. Arts and Crafts enjoyed creating space creatures, water coloring, and bean art while listening to the radio and talking about their new friends and day. This summer many children got to enjoy and learn how to kayak on our new sit-on-top kayaks. Swimming is always an area in which children learn and grow the most. A lot of progress has been made by both the swimmers and those still learning to become comfortable in the water. Our Nature staff had a very busy summer revamping the program. New trails were made as well as new games. Children enjoyed treasure hunts, archery, and hikes to the Hollow Tree.  Campers learned more about themselves and others while interacting during "cabin time".  This included self-esteem activities as well as group and leadership building games. We also had some very exciting vistors this summer. The Eaton Fire Department came up and showed us what a real water rescue looks like at our own waterfront. The children got to ask questions about scuba diving and water rescues. The Eaton and Goergetown Fire Departments teamed together and made a special trip up to camp this summer to demonstrate a real fire rescue. They brought thier smoke machine and filled Jimmy's cabin with smoke! We all watched as they rescued some of our favorite counselors. We also had a very special group of runners visit us. The World Harmony Run made a special visit in August to teach us all about harmony and being more kind, caring, and considerate. Besides these great visitors and programs we had our Board of Directors visit for a special dinner, a group of women form the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority visit for dinner and evening program, as well as our staffs family for a special evening.  We have had a great staff of counselors including many veterans and a few new faces that have forge special relationships with the campers.  We hope that everyone has had a great time with us and we look forward to your return next  summer when once again the trees will shake with joy.
